what is yin yoga?

Yin is a slow and passive, steady and reflective practice of yoga. We aim to target the deeper, more yin, tissues within the body; the connective tissue (fascia), ligaments, tendons and joints. Different parts of the physical and energetic body will be targeted through longer and still holds of varying asanas (yoga shapes). The body and mind are challenged in many ways, helping us integrate the physiological and anatomical benefits and cultivate more mindfulness and mental health benefits on and off the mat.

In our Yin Yoga practice, we will follow the three guiding principles of Yin: Level of Comfort, Resolving to find Stillness and Holding for Time. These are the ways in which we approach our practice and how we arrive and settle into each asana.

Between each shape, we will come into Rebound – a moment of stillness and nothingness. Rebound is just as, if not more, important than the asanas themself. This moment of stillness is when we truly experience and receive all that has just occurred coming out of an asana. By bringing the body (and mind) into a neutral, effortless shape the benefits assimilate and settle into our bodies at a cellular level.

Yin has been shown to have incredible effects across the body's physical, energetic, mental and emotional dimensions.
